Glimpses into the World of the Unseen: I | II | III | IV | V | VI | VII | VIII
My fingers tremble and my mind is uneasy as I begin writing. However, it is a reality that the Hellfire exists and it is indeed the logical consequence for those who have sinned against Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala (Glorified is He) and disobeyed His commands.
While those who will die as disbelievers will be in Hell for eternity, even some Muslims will enter Hell for a period of time to be purified of their sins and then entered into paradise. Often times we hear brothers and sisters say “Even if we do enter hell, we will eventually go to Paradise insha’Allah (God willingly).” Pondering over this article to follow, I doubt that anyone would want even a millisecond in such a dreadful place!
Hellfire has 7 gates1, and it has been prepared for the wrongdoers. In a hadith (saying of the Prophet) the Prophet ﷺ (peace be upon him) said that the heat of the Hellfire is multiplied 70 times compared to the fire of this world2. Try dipping a finger into the kitchen stove just once and feel the pain it brings, and then imagine a fire 70 times hotter burning your whole body. Indeed as the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said that after a few moments in Hellfire, all the pleasures of this world we had will be utterly forgotten.3
On the Day of Judgment, Hellfire will be brought by 4.9 billion angels4 and it is as if it is a living being; it howls, coughs, roars up and it breathes, boiling and surging up as it is trying to tear itself from the angels to attack the people to burn them for their sins.
How will our day be? How will it be when we see the Hellfire for ourselves? How much will we repent and regret that day, on a day where repentance and regret will be of no use; the Hell we laughed off when people reminded us of fearing it, the Hell we were destined to go to with all the sins we committed, and the Hellfire we deserved for being heedless of the warnings of Allah (swt). Let us make it in ourselves to regret and repent today while there is still time. Know that as Muslims we ourselves may fall into hypocrisy and know that the hypocrite will be in the lowest depths of the hellfire.5 The lowest of the fire is so deep that a stone was thrown into the fire and it took 70 years to reach the bottom.6
Hellfire will come that Day determined to take revenge on those whom Allah created and they worshipped others besides Him. Revenge will be taken on those whom Allah provided and yet they were sinful, and upon those whom Allah bestowed His favor and Mercy and they forgot Him, the Most High.
Hellfire will be fueled by people and stones, by the false-gods worshipped and by the disbelievers among the jinn.7
On that fateful Day, Allah will tell our father Adam alayhi salam (peace be on him), “Send forth those who are destined for Hell”, and our father Adam will ask “Who are those?” And Allah (swt) will give a reply that is sure to tear at the hearts of every believer, “Out of every thousand, 999 go to Hell and 1 to paradise.8” Fear Allah! Fear Allah for these numbers!
The food of the people of Hell will be from the tree of Zaqqum, which will boil the intestines like scalding water.9 The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned that if a drop of Zaqqum would have fallen on this Earth, it would ruin every provision on earth. Now, how about those who will have to eat from it?10 The drink of the inhabitants of hell will be boiling water, and a disgusting boiling fluid made of pus and blood.11
Brothers and sisters, by Allah I do not have words to describe this Hell and how horrible its torment can be. How can I describe something which seeks refuge in Allah from itself? How can I describe Hell which has a valley called Gubb Al-Hazan which is so terrible that Hellfire itself seeks refuge from it 100 times a day?12 How can I describe a Hell whose inmates are burned continuously day and night? The least of punishment given to any of its inmates is the wearing of a pair of shoes of fire, which boil the brain13!
The following are some of the categories of people who will enter Hellfire, although there are more:
1. Disbelievers
2. Hypocrites
3. Arrogant Rejecters of truth
4. Sinners and Criminals
5. The Unjust
6. The ones who transgress the limits set by Allah
7. Tyrants
8. Murderers
9. Those who persecute the believers
10. Those who prefer the world and neglect the hereafter
11. Those who commit suicide
12. Everyone who is cruel, proud and arrogant
13. The one who is treacherous
14. The traitor
15. One who has a habit of abusing people and using obscene language
16. The one who doesn’t pray, and also the one who doesn’t pray on time
Hellfire is indeed a horrible destination, and it has an insatiable appetite. As Allah (swt) mentions,
“On the Day We will say to Hellfire, ‘have you been filled?’ it will say, ‘Are there some more?’” (Qur’an, 50:30)
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also adds to this,
“Hell will continue to ask, ‘Is there anything more?’ until Allah, the Exalted, and High will place His foot thereon, Then it will say, ‘Enough, enough, by Your honor,’ and some of its parts will draw close together.’”
For a more vivid, and more referenced description of Hellfire, you can visit the following link where Sister Safa has taken a painstaking duty of compiling all the verses and ahadeeth on Hellfire, http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthread.php?t=26711
May Allah (swt) indeed save ourselves from the Hellfire and may Allah (swt) make us of those who fulfill His command in Surah Tahreem,
”O you who believe! Save yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.” (Qur’an 66:6)
I end with a short poem on Hellfire by the renowned scholar of Ibn Al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy upon him,
A place its inhabitants are banished to,
where they are forbidden from tasting any pleasure,
their cleanliness is changed to blackness on their faces,
and they are beaten by hammers stronger than mountains,
over it are angels, harsh and severe,
if you only saw them.
So their sadness is permanent, no happiness after it, and their state, unchangeable,
they will never leave, living there forever and ever.
Upon it are angels, harsh and severe.
What sadness for them, that the Creator is angry with them!
They are exposed in front of all the people,
they cry over wasting their lives,
and every time they cry the punishment increases!
What happened to their chasing of the dunya!?
What happened to them striving in sins?!
It seems like only a dream…then their bodies are burned, and then healed, then burned. Upon it are angels, harsh and severe……
Salam,
May Allah save us from Hell!
Unfortunately this post made me more depressed than afraid. I feel hopeless. Like we were put on this Earth to be tested and tried, a difficult world already full of pain and misery, only to know that 1 of 1000 will make it to heaven. Life is so hard. Is something wrong with me for feeling this way? Any advice would be great.
May Allah forgive me for these doubts and feelings and not cast me as a hypocrite.
Assalamu alaikum,
Bro Ron, Our worship of Allah should be with love, hope and fear. This reminder of the realities of Hellfire is to wake up sleeping souls and rusty hearts. The problem is, is that many muslims nowadays, suffer from a huge degree of arrogance and negligence yet believe the title “Muslim” somehow assures their passage to jannah-this is not the case at all.
Allah is not unjust akhi, and he is full of mercy to his Sincere slaves, but neither is he deaf, dumb and blind-and hellfire is his rightful punishment he knows those who are sincere and those who are not-the Day of Judgement is when the truth comes out. We just need to sincerely worship him -how he tells us to, love him and express this love the way the our beloved Rasool taught us, hope for his mercy and fear his punishment.
Subhan’Allah bro this world is absolutely a test(and that’s putting it mildly!) with many lessons, and Jannah is surrounded by these difficulties, and Allah knows the beginning and the end of affairs. So we trundle on with strong dua and qiyaamul layl and beg Allah to give us guidance and strength to get through the trials that we must face-as it is through these trials that he purifies us (as long as we are not under a blameworthy punishment or underneath the dua of someone we have wronged, and a few more categories..)
Lastly…
(as narrated in the famous hadith Qudsi)
On the Authority of Abu Hurayrah (may allah be pleased with him),who said that the messenger of Allah (sallalahu alaihi wa salaam) said;
When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in his book which is laid down with him:”My Mercy prevails over my wrath.”
(related Muslim,Bukhar, an-Nasai and Ibn Majah)
Walaikum assalam warahmatullah. A believer’s life is based upon hope and fear of Allah. there is both hope for His Mercy and Fear of His punishment. this is a series, and even jannah will be described here in sha Allah. i would like you to track back to the 2nd article in this series, and read that as well, in sha Allah will make you feel better. rather than feeling lost, do remember that Allah never asks of us to do something impossible. it is possible in sha Allah that you will be 1 among a thousand 🙂
http://www.virtualmosque.com/personaldvlpt/purification-heart/where-the-day-of-judgement-begins/#fnref-18609-1
If only one from a thousand are saved, it’s clear that a very tiny fraction of mankind will be at the receiving end of Allah’s mercy.
Every chapter of the Quran begins by “In the name of Allah , the most Gracious, the most Merciful” clearly highlighting that more than anything God is the most Merciful. Furthermore, the following hadith explicitly shows that Allah addresses all humans (O son of Adam) conveying the unlimited extent of the mercy of Allah as even a non-muslim or one who has committed the heinous sin of murder may be forgiven by Allah if they repent:
On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Allah the Almighty said: ‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it.'” [At-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound.]
Additionally, consider the population of muslims to non-muslims and you’l find that the amount of non-muslims is extremely larger than the amount of muslims even in this day and age. Lastly, if 1/1000 of humanity (from the dawn of man) believes in Allah only and ascribes no partners unto Him then logically 1/100 people will enter heaven.
Wa-aleykoum as-Salam wa-Rahmatullahi wa-Barakatuh brother,
Never despair of the mercy of Allah.
I found these ahadeeth on the internet
The Messenger of Allah(PBUH) said, “Allah divided mankind into ten parts. Nine tenths constitute Ya’juj and Ma’juj while the remaining one tenth constitutes the rest of mankind.” (Abdullah-b-Amr/Fathul-Bari)
Hadrat Abu Saeed Khudri narrates that the Messenger of Allah said, “On the Day of Judgement, Allah will tell Adam to pick out the Jahanamis from his progeny. Adam will ask, “O Allah, who are they?” Allah will say,”999 out of 1000 are Jahanamis while the one is a Jannati.” On hearing this the Sahaba over taken by fear asked, “Who will the ONE Jannati be?” The Prophet replied, “Do not grieve the 999 will be Yajuj Ma’juj while you will be the one Jannati.” (Bukhari/Muslim)
Maybe you want to read the article “Thinking Well of Allah” by Jinan Yousef on this site.
here’s the link:

This article is part of a series of articles – insha’Allah reading these will help you put things into perspective and not to lose hope
May Allah bless you and make things easy for you, Ameen. May He give you istiqama and renew and protect your Imaan and may He give you contenment with the divine decree, Ameen
I might be answering your question super late but I just came across this thread. I paraphrase… when the prophet (pbuh) told the companions this, they became visibly scared and inquired how they could ever have the chance of being that 1/1000. The prophet(pbuh) replied saying the ranks of Yajooj and Majooj (Gog and Magog) are large.
I summarized this from a speech so may Allah(swt) forgive me if I said anything wrong intentionally or unintentionally.
And remember brother in Islam, Allah(swt) is Most Forgiving.
No, you are right. The situation is hopeless. We are all doomed, Muslims and non-Muslims alike. All people are hypocrites. Read Surat al Asr to understand this truth. “By the token of time. Verily, man is in loss.”
Wow ! A sober reminder for all of us. JazakAllah and may Allah (SWT) save all of us from the torment of the grave and the hellfire. Just one thing , the hadith regarding 999 going to hell and 1 going to paradise, werent the 999 supposed to be from the tribe of Yajud and Majud ? Would be most thankful if you could clarify this.
May Allah save us from Hell!
@ Ron- in response to your query- I would say to strive for the best, make tons and tons of dua, and repent a LOT.
all we can do is strive to be better, and Allah (swt) knows that. He knows us better than the closest bone in our body remember..
May Allah bless us all, and have mercy upon us as we strive for Jannah, and only Jannah insh!!
ASA shurkon 4 tht e-mail it really, really touch my soul,
ASA…this is what came to my thoughts: Surah 3 Ali Imran ayat 103…”And hold fast, all together, by the Rope which Allah (stretches out For you), and be not divided Among yourselves; And remember with gratitude Allah’s favour on you; for ye were enemies And He joinded your hearts In love, so that by His Grace, Ye became brethren; And ye were on the brink of the Pit of Fire, And He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you:That ye may be guided.
This post is such a disappointment; it’s left me feeling sick. This is the type of thing that turns me away from religion. I have been so grateful to find so many postings on this site about love, forgiveness, and the path of true spirituality toward an Islam that would draw ANY believer or non-believer to it, seeing what a beautiful religion it is. The compassionate views I’ve read on this site helped me feel supported while fasting during Ramadan, for example, and I’m more committed than ever to taking steps toward practicing my religion as a result. I’ve been referring Muslims and non-Muslims to this site. It has been a place of refuge and encouragement for me. Tell me, how is this post helpful? Why would anyone want a link to a “MORE VIVID” description of hellfire? It’s like forcing your children to watch war movies to teach them about peace. Focusing on these images is like pouring poison into people’s hearts and minds. I am not denying that these parts of Islam are present, and that it is important to know about all of the aspects of Islam. But why do so many people feel the need to fill people’s minds with these images? I do not believe that a merciful God wants me to carry violent images in my heart and mind. There are also a million examples in Islam of simple things a believer can do that are said to wipe out all sins. How about quoting the hadith that says that anyone who prays on Laylt al Qadr with pure heart and intenion will have all of his previous sins forgiven? Why not feed people’s minds and hearts with those?
Assalamu alaykum warahmatullah. may Allah reward you so very much for your interesting post. I often times hope and look for constructive criticism for that helps in shaping me into a better human being alhamdulillah. you might have reacted as such to my article because you probably did not read the series as a whole. i have 3 more upcoming articles in the series in sha Allah, and all of them dedicated to jannah. and even before this i would encourage you to check out parts 2 and 5, which are more into showing hopefulness, and forgiveness. Islam is based upon love, hope and fear of Allah. and to cut off any part of that would be problematic. while most of the discourse is on hope and forgiveness, some do need to be on death and justice, to give us a reminder. go through the quran, every page has something related to the unseen, nearly every other page something about paradise and hell, and the descriptions of both paradise and hell are actually EQUAL in the quran. yet, i apologize to you if you find my post irrelevant,or bad in any way, and you could in fact contact the webmaster and ask that my article be removed from the site.
No way Sir. We NEED posts like this to remind us the next we start slipping into sin. A believer’s life is equal parts hope and fear and there is a reason like you said Allah (SWT) warns us of HIS punishment again and again in the Quran. As muslims we should be thanksful of these reminders in the dunya rather than being regretful when we actually SEE Jahannum with our own eyes and comprehend its awful reality.
i agree totally with Taimur, this fear of Hellfire has helped me gear up, do whatever possible to not be among those who will receive the hellfire treatment! Thanx..
I can appreciate your sentiments. Nobody follows a religion with the intention of lifting their spirits with these types of images. But many people give up their faith in a Creator when they are confronted with the horror of mass murder that has happened all over the world. Some people say that “if there were a God, He wouldn’t have allowed the Holocaust to happen.” (The Holocaust is well known because it happened in Europe, but the reason it was so successful is because the same techniques had been applied a few times in Africa before then.) How could Allah let something like that happen? As Muslims we must believe that the punishment awaiting the monstrous perpetrators of crimes against humanity is equally, if not more, monstrous, that the suffering of the victims will be avenged by divine Justice. Allah picks some of us to die at the hands of others, and He alone knows what everyone’s compensation will be. The rest of us who are neither perp nor victim will have to answer for what we did when confronted by these uncomfortable realities.Did we seek the protection of Allah? Did we shake with our fear of Him?
A wise scholar once told me that the fear of Allah is not like the fear of anything else – Allah is all-encompassing, omnipotent, so the only thing we can do when we feel that fear is to try to get closer to Him to earn His protection. We only need to look up at the stars to realize how far beyond our comprehension Allah is. Or we could simply look at our fingertips, and realize that Allah has created about a trillion distinct fingertips, among humans anyway. What is Allah’s penitentiary going to be like….?
This post is indeed terrifying but then again, most of us know this stuff already and choose to ignore. It’s the same thing with the concept and reality of ‘death’, something that is so certain and imminent, yet we choose not to think of it too much as it is too painful. But sadly, this is the reality of Human Beings, we are weak and fragile and attracted incredibly to this duniya’s charms. It makes us forget, way too often, our true purpose of existence and our ending, and the hell awaiting the sinners. Articles like these are heart softeners and bring back to us our reality, make us humble and make us turn to Allah in repentance…which is something we should be doing every single day anyway!
May Allah SWT save us all from the fire and from the torment of the Last Day, ameen. And JazakAllah for this article.
Salam aleikum
Thank you for this article!
As a convert this made me cry, please make dua for my non muslim parents and brothers, grandfather and whole family and all families of converts.
Jazakallah Khair
Aleikum issalam. Thank you for taking the time to respond so humbly and thoughtfully to my post. Of course, I understand that the images that are contained in your article are relevant and are in the Quran. I just feel that, often, they are the images that people focus on and teach, far more often than the beautiful parts. This leaves me, and many others, with the feeling that Islam is only a religion of punishment and reward, rather than a path toward cultivating a pure heart in service to God and His Creation. Maybe this type of fear helps some people stay on the right path; personally, being reminded of such horrifying images over and over again serves to close my heart. Fear, by its nature, closes the heart. Awe and reverence for a Power that is beyond my ability to comprehend opens my heart and motivates me to stay on the path. Obviously, this is just my opinion, and I know that others do not share it. I appreciate having a forum in which to share my opinion, and to be able to have a respectful exchange about it. Yes, I did go back afterward and I realized that this is one article in a series. I look forward to reading the others. Thank you.
@ RON, I know what you mean. Life is full of tials and tribulations but these trials are only there to make you stronger and better Muslim, individual and person, as Allah only tries those whom he loves according to the degree of their faith. Just look at Sahahaba, when they were not tried, they would complain to the Prophet (Pbuh) that does Allah still love us? Remember our Lord is Rahman and Rahim and Wadud (Most Loving).
If Hell fire is 70 times more hotter than the earths fire, than also remember that Allahs mercy has 100 parts, only one which he shares with the inhabitants on earth, thats why a mother wakes up in the middle of the night for her child, whether she be muslim or not.
The best thing do is not become a extreme in faith who cannot keep up with his ibadah or whatever, but be simple and moderate in Islam, have hope and mercy with a balance of fear, but this fear and tanzih of Allah should NOT go over the Rahmah (Tasbih) of Allah. If it does you will feel saddened on earth but if you view Allah positively with balance than you will be happy, enjoy and know your lord.
Where is the hellfire?
AsSalamu Aleykum wa Rahmatullah
Being taken to account and possibly punished for our sins are some of the most painful aspects of the Day of Judgement, however God – exalted – is the Most Kind and Merciful, His Mercy excels His wrath. He would never disappoint the hopes of those who trust in Him.
Thanks for posting this great article and may God shower you all with His infinite Mercy.
I felt obliged to comment here because of the hadith quoted above. Please allow me to give some thoughtful criticism.
“Hell will continue to ask, ‘Is there anything more?’ until Allah, the Exalted, and High will place His foot thereon, Then it will say, ‘Enough, enough, by Your honor,’ and some of its parts will draw close together.’”
This hadith cannot be accurate (in the sense that God has a foot) since ascribing a body to God would be limiting Him – exalted und free from limitations is He.
My argument could be supported by the verse that states ” leysa ka mithlihi shey’ ” (“nothing is like Him”).
The Creator is unlike the creation that is limited to a place and shape, since place, time and shape are creations too, they only apply to us, not to God.
I am aware that the holy Qur’an uses expressions like ” God’s hand is above their hands” and ” the face of your Lord remains” however these are qur’anically common metaphors that cannot be taken literal.
So using logical reasoning whatever conflicts with the holy Qur’an is inaccurate.
Peace and blessings be upon you, brothers and sisters.
I hope I haven’t offended you, since I really appreciate this article and the page as a whole. But this is a faulty hadith, regardless where it might be cited, so we should refrain from using it.
Wa aleykum AsSalam
your sister in Islam
walaikum assalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu
very interesting post ma sha Allah. firstly, the hadith has been described by scholars to be accurate, and hence we have to accept the text of the hadith. Just as the Quran talks about God having Hands, Eyes, etc, we affirm the Attributes of God mentioned in the hadith as well. There is a simple way of differentiating between Attributes of God and attributes of human beings which might have a similar name. remember this, and even if sometimes it might turn out to be hard to understand you will be able to grasp it in sha Allah. the differences are
1. the attributes of God are infinite, while those of men are finite and limited
2. the attributes of God have no beginning and no end, while those of ours do have a beginning and an end
3. the attributes of God are His own, while ours are created by God
these three principles if accepted and applied, then God can describe Himself in a way that befits His Majesty. So when we mention any attribute of God, we mention along with it “in a way that befits His Majesty.” So, be careful of rejecting a sound narration from the Prophet of God sallallahu alayhi wasallam 🙂
for mroe on names an attributes you could check out the excellent book called “The Illuminating Creed” by Imam Ibn Qudaamah al-Maqdisee
Dear Sister,
May Allah (SWT) increase you in knowledge but I would be very careful before giving my personal opinions on hadith and declaring them faulty as that is the realm of scholars. The Quran explicity mentions “That day the shin will be laid bare” which is also supported by hadith. These attribute’s of Allah (SWT) are beyond are understanding so we should refer the matter to the people of knowledge
Tafsir al-Jalalayn provides a different interpretation of that verse (68:42):
Mention, the day when the shank is bared (an expression denoting the severity of the predicament during the reckoning and the requital on the Day of Resurrection: one says kashafati’l-harbu ‘an sāqin, ‘the war has bared its shank’, to mean that it has intensified) and they are summoned to prostrate themselves, as a test of their faith, but they will not be able [to do so] — their backs will become as [stiff as] a brick wall.
I do not disagree that either hadith mentioned are authentic, however.
Sister Muriel,
With utmost respect sister:
Firstly, the hadith is authentic. Please see Sahih Bukhari Volume 8 Book 78 Number 654.
Secondly, a believer’s attitude towards the names and attributes of Allah is to accept them at face value without interpreting them (ex. asking ‘How is Allah’s foot like’ or ‘What is the “Howness” of Allah’s foot,’ etc.) or resembling them to the creation in anyway. You have made the mistake of resembling Allah’s Foot to the creation and thereby limiting him (Tamtheel).
You are correct in saying Laysa Kamithli hee Shayun (Surah Shurah) describes Allah but that doesn’t negate the fact that He has a Foot which He Himself has ascribed to Himself. Laysa Kamithli Hee Shayun here means that His Foot doesn’t resemble the creation in anyway what so ever and befits His Majesty in a way that only He Knows.
Allah mentioned these attributes for Himself in His Book and they are mentioned in the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him). If their meanings were not to be taken literally, what did Allah use these words (Eyes, Shin, etc) to describe Himself? Why didn’t He use other words to Describe Himself if these words weren’t to be taken literally?
Regardless, the hadith is not faulty.
With utmost respect,
Your brother in Islam
jazak Allah khair for taking the time out for the explanation, excellently said
Could it be Allah has a foot but its like nothing in creation?
exactly
brother leo,Yes!!!Allah does have a foot. But its not like any of His creation. As He states “There is nothing like unto Him”
May Allah Azza wajal make us amongst the Muflihoon in both the worlds
JazakAllah khair for these articles — indeed we need to read about the not-so-pleasant topics as well. I learn a lot through the comments, too.
Wanted to echo this comment, indeed I love reading through the comments list — more knowledge to be gained here too. 🙂 JazakAllah to the author as well for reading and responding in these discussions.
Jazakallah’ for such an inspiring article. It is indeed very hard to keep away from the glimmer of the dunya’ and keep remembering the hereafter – the punishments of the Hellfire, the endless happiness in the Paradise, and a life which shall never come to an end, unlike the temporary life of the dunya’.
May ALLAH (Subhanahu wa ‘ taala) forgive our sins and keep our tongues pure and moist with his remembrance
Ameen ya Allah’

Jazakom Allahu khairan for this beautiful article bro! But do consider this hadith about 999 being thrown to the hell and 1 to paradise.
According to a narration of Sayyidna Abii Sa’id al-Khudri (RA) appearing in the Sahih of al-Bukhari and Muslim, the Holy Prophet said, “On the day of Qiyamah, Allah Ta’ala will ask Sayyidna Adam (AS), ‘raise the Hell-bound from your progeny.’ He will wonder, ‘my Lord, who are they?’ Then, the Divine command will go forth that nine hundred and ninety nine of everyone thousand are Hell-bound with only one bound to go to Paradise. Scared, the noble Sahabah asked, ‘Ya Rasulallah, ‘who from among us shall be the one bound to go to Paradise?’ Thereupon, he said, ‘do not worry because out of these nine hundred and ninety nine Hell-bound people, there will be only one from among you while, ratio-wise, there will be a thousand from among the Ya’juj Ma’juj.’ According to a narration of Sayyidna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (RA) in the Mustadrak of al-Hakim, the Holy Prophet ii said that Allah Ta’aIa divided all human beings into ten parts. Nine of these belong to Ya’juj Ma’juj while the remaining one part covers the human beings of the whole world. (Ruh al-Ma’ani)

Nahiyan I suggest you to go through the inhabitants of hellfire again which mentions hypocrites, sinners, murderes, those who spread corruption. It is only those Muslim who obey and follow the commandments of Allah, in other words practicing muslims will enter into jannah (in sha allah we will be among them) and not those people who consider themselves as muslims but do not obey Allah in anyway. And the article also mentions that muslims who are believers of Allah his messengers, mercy and punishments and the day of judgment but if they’re sins are more than that of their good deeds, they will be sent to hell until they get purified. After which they will be sent to jannah.
Please correct me if Im wrong. Assalaamu alaikum WRWB
How we do we reconcile belief in eternal punishment with Allah’s infinite mercy?
