Bismillah.
Allah ta’ala says in the Qur’an:
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers – never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers. (3:91)
The word used for the capacity of the earth in this ayah is Mil al-Ard. “Mil” is used for the quantity that a vessel holds when it is filled; hence mil al-ard refers to the quantity/volume/mass/fill of the earth.
Those who die while they are disbelievers, Allah will accept no good deed ever from them, even if they gave the earth’s fill of gold as ransom. How much gold would that amount to? The earth’s fill.
Let’s do the math:
Volume of the earth:
- 1,083,206,246,123,080,894,852 m3
- In words: 1 Septillion, 83 Sextillion, 206 quintillion, 246 trillion, 123 billion, 80 million, 894 thousand, 852 m3
- Mass of the Earth: 5.98 x 1024 kg (After 98, you would add 24 more zeros)
- Price of one Ounce of Gold: $802.70 USD
Therefore, mass of the earth in Gold is worth = $1.65 x 1029 USD (27 zeros after 65)
With this money, you could buy yourself all of:
- 100 Ferraris ($168,000 each)
- The most expensive house in the world ($155 million)
- A Boeing A380 – huge double decker plane ($300 million)
- The millennium star diamond (over a $100 million)
- A trip to the moon ($100 million)
- The international space station ($100 billion)
And now, you could do this for every single person of the six billion people on earth, and have spent only 0.000000366 % of your money.
You could have done all this a million times over and still have 97 % of your money left over.
It’s like winning a $200 billion lottery for every second of your life for 65 years.
We’re talking about an absolutely unfathomable amount of money. Does anyone on this planet have this much gold? Can anyone earn this much?
If a disbeliever gave the earth’s fill of gold as ransom, it will not be accepted from him.
Learn this lesson well: The weight of emaan is more than Mil al-Ard. It’s more valuable. It’s priceless.
Jazakum Allahu khayran to my teachers for researching this.
wow this is a really interesting article – jzk Sis!!
165 billion dollars is nothing…
If people think I am wrong, then they should have a talk with bill gates.
Even the richest of men in terms of money find that happyness DOES NOT come from Money. But some jerks whom play bets do. once they die they realise what they leave behind.
True happyness comes from IMAN and the Quran.
165 billion dollars is nothing…
What can 165 billion dollars benifit me?
I don’t want 165 billion dollars of whcih I would leave behind when I die.
What is so great about a peice of greenish whitish parchment that I will leave behind. Which is greater, something I will keep and that will give me benifit, of something that will leave me or even worst, betray me?!
When I die I wont be taking anything that would give me any benifit for ever happyness except for my great deeds.
Whould you rather die with 165 billion dollars or with 168 billion good deads.
Would you rather die with soemthing that wont even follow you to your grave to help you face your lord and provide evidence for you to diserve ever happyness?
Or would you rather die with a ticket to this “Ever Happiness”, that which would follow you to the gates of what you should be working in this life for.
We make money in this life only for survival.
But the only true survival come when we we pass this test of “life”
The only thing that would allow us to survive this “test” would be our iman!
Not money! Not a ransom of money! But a ransom of Good deeds that would witness your true beliefe of god and his last messenger! Good deeds that would out shine the bad deeds. Good deeds that would outshine Gold! Good deeds that will only come with you to your new home! Not that 155 million dollr mansion, But that infinite everlasting happyness.
Happyness is priceless. Happyness could not be attained by 165 billion dollars. Happyness could only be attained by Iman. The key to happyness is iman and a couple of good deeds.
What is this happyness? What is this priceless jewl that outshines all the goodness that we will ever see. Jannah
That is the true destiny we struggle for. Not a 100 farraris.
Money may buy are way to a 5 billion dollar home, but won’t buy our way to jannah.
It is our iman that puts value in this world. Earth is not a place for a fill of gold but a place for a fill of iman!
–33:34
Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember – Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.
moaz,
its not 165 billion dollars, its the 19 zeros behind it that makes that sheer amount of money as useless as a dune is to a hapless ant. even if you try to do some good with it, running every living soul’s every material need over a million times around and more.
SubhanAllah what really got me was how we run around in this dunya, so greedy for money, yet it will do NOTHING for us when we truly need it…to be saved from the fire of Hell. What gets me even more is imagine how the disbeliever must feel in that situation! SubhanAllah. It’s called “hasrah” in Arabic, it’s more than just regret. it’s more like crying over spilled milk. May Allah ta’ala guide us until we reach Jannah. Ameen.
Be thankful, brothers and sisters, for what your Rabb has given you that is more weighty than this whole earth.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ
“The most perfect praise and thanks are only for Allah, who has guided us to this: never could we have found guidance, had it not been for the guidance of Allah.” (7:43)
