Suhaib Webb is a contemporary American-Muslim educator, activist, and lecturer. His work bridges classical and contemporary Islamic thought, addressing issues of cultural, social and political relevance to Muslims in the West. He earned a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and received intensive private training in the Islamic Sciences under a renowned Muslim Scholar of Senegalese descent. Webb was hired as the Imam at the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, where he gave khutbas (sermons), taught religious classes, and provided counselling to families and young people; he also served as an Imam and resident scholar in communities across the U.S.
From 2004-2010, Suhaib Webb studied at the world’s preeminent Islamic institution of learning, Al-Azhar University, in the College of Shari`ah. During this time, after several years of studying the Arabic Language and the Islamic legal tradition, he also served as the head of the English Translation Department at Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah.
Outside of his studies at Al-Azhar, Suhaib Webb completed the memorization of the Quran in the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. I felt as if I were there, thank you
there is a speech: “ Dear Muslim brothers and sisters, it is not difficult for Minister Farrakhan and Wallace D. Mohammed to embrace each other. That’s easy for us. When I first met him in the early ’50s, I liked him on first sight, and I became his friend and his brother. And I have not stopped being his friend and his brother. Maybe he has not understood, but I have always been his friend and his brother. For me, this is too big a cause for our personal problems and differences. Allah-u Akbar (God is great). Asalamualaikum wrt wb,
Can you imagine the personal strength it must have required him to break away from his father who claimed to be a prophet and had millions of followers?
May Allah shower him with mercy and forgive his sins. Ameen.
Min. Farrakhan gave a very moving brief speech at the Memorial Celebration for Imam Warith Deen today. I hope that it was being taped. He talked about knowing the Imam for 53 years, and about how the Imam was the person who first taught him about salat. He talked about all the different members of the family and how almost all African American Muslims and many many others today have somehow been touched by and are a legacy of that family.
Min. Farrakhan then mentioned that when he was a young man, W.D. Muhammed found comfort in the Qur’an and he found comfort in the example and life story of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and that these were the gifts that he gave to his people.
